I’ve talked about how I’m getting my face ready this holiday season, and something was conspicuously missing, lip products! Winter and this season are the perfect time for purples, violets, mauves, reds, and nudes. In the bleak backdrop of the grey, overcast skies of winter, a bold lip is a staple that can instantly brighten the face. With a smoky eye look this New Year’s, find the perfect nude to complement it. So, what have I been loving to wear this winter?

Although I love a bright, electric, and even neon pink, I’ve been avoiding these colours altogether. My skin tone works best with violet and blue undertone shades, so I’ve been loving berries and violets and some reds for a bold lip and pinky nudes for my everyday purposes. Anything with a brown undertone clashes with my skin tone and makes me look dead, so I’ve avoided these colours completely.

I’ve also chosen a selection of textures, finishes, and pigmentations. Some of these lip products are matte, some are sheer, some are glossy, and some are super full-on. Specifically, there are three violet and mauve shades that are quite similar, but they’re all different finishes and feels. I reserve my matte liquid lipstick for nights out and glosses, balms, and some lipstick for the daytime or for a family dinner.

Aromi Matte Liquid Lipstick in Forbidden Fuchsia – I love this colour and the long wearing formula of this product. It dries matte, and I save it for nights out. It’s too bold for daytime for me.

Ilia Beauty Lipstick in Inkpot – This can be worn day or night. During the day, I use it more as a stain and combine it with a lip balm. This is more violet than the other shades on either side of it, so it is perfect for a vampy look when applied straight from the bullet.

Honest Beauty Truly Lip Crayon Demi-Matte in Mulberry – This is the perfect mauve and purple colour for daytime. It’s glossier in texture than the other two, and it isn’t so pigmented that it looks out of place at the office or a family gathering. The only downside is its short wear time. However, I don’t mind reapplying!

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Coulis – The only red shade on the list, Bite Beauty products are on the natural/conventional line and have great pigmentation and staying power. I wear this toned down as a stain or full-on depending on the occasion. I love this shade because of its blue undertones.

Aromi Beauty Lipstick in Bombshell – This is the perfect my-lips-but-better shade for the winter. It’s mauve with a hint of pink and neutral enough to wear with a more dramatic eye look. The finish is moisturizing but more satin than glossy.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Torte – Again, I love these lip crayons. This colour is a super flattering, pinky nude shade. It’s got more colour payoff than Nobody’s Baby below, so it’s one of those shades people can tell you’re wearing, but I’m fine with that.  It’s got a great, moisturizing texture and wear time.

Ilia Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody’s Baby – This is a tried and true nude staple. It’s unassuming, but flattering, and I love the texture and moisture of these products. It’s my go-to if I’m wearing a smoky eye or other dramatic look!

What are your favourite holiday looks? Am I missing any? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Hope you’ve got some fun plans for New Years 🙂
