If you read this blog, then you have a good idea that natural products don’t mean a sacrifice in quality or efficacy. In fact, nowadays there are natural, nontoxic alternatives for every beauty staple. With the warmer weather and sunnier days (finally) upon us, this time of year requires a certain set of essentials to keep us looking on point. These are my natural alternatives for everyday, summer essentials.

Sunscreen (Instead of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer) – Obviously, SPF is a necessity in the summer. I admit that I should wear sunscreen more regularly than I do, and I’m working on it. I’ve had these favourites for a long time, and they haven’t changed. For face, nothing beats the Pratima Neem Rose Face Sunscreen SPF30. You can pick this up online for $36.00. It doesn’t break me out,  it’s long lasting, and it sets in clear. It doesn’t leave the face too dewy or tight and dry. Also, one bottle lasts a very long time. I love it!

For body (instead of Coppertone or other conventional spray lotion) – I really like Caribbean Solutions  SPF 25 for Body. Available online for $15.00, this sunscreen is UVA/UVB broad spectrum, GMO free, biodegradable, non nano, paragon free, and hypo-allergenic. You may not know this, but sunscreen actually washes off into the ocean and pollutes it, endangering all aquatic life. Sunscreens like these use physical blockers, like zinc, to block the sun’s harmful rays. Yes, this can result in a light, white cast upon the skin after application, but that’s one small inconvenience in exchange for an effective, green beauty product. I highly recommend it!

After-Sun Skincare (instead of Banana Boat’s Soothing Aloe After Sun Gel – Walmart and drugstores sell jumbo bottles of artificially green, gloopy aloe gel all summer long to soothe sunburns. But, these products don’t give you the real thing. When it comes to aloe, nothing’s more effective than the pure stuff! Just as affordable, I pick up bottles of George’s Always Active Aloe Vera from the online beauty, health food, and vitamin store Vitacost. Real aloe gel is transparent and viscous. I use it almost everyday, regardless of sun exposure. It’s great for soothing skin and keeping it hydrated without irritation.

Lip Balm (instead of Nivea A Kiss of Protection) – Some natural lip balms can be chalky and hard to smooth on. Hurraw SPF 15 Sun Balm is creamy, hydrating dream. It’s super easy to apply and it smells like tangerine. It can give off a slight white cast, but I always check the mirror and am able to get a transparent application.

All Over Hydration (instead of Bath and Body Works Lotions) – My favourite, well-priced and incredible smelling lotion is Deep Steep Honeydew Spearmint Body Butter. The smell of this is mouth-watering without the chemical overload.

Hydrating, Resurfacing Mask for Plump, Fresh Skin (instead of GLAMGLOW)- I’ve used the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask and raved about it here. This mask is super easy to use, just slap it on, and visibly leaves skin smooth and refreshed. I use it at least once a week.

Bronzer (instead of Soleil Tan de Chanel) 100% Pure Cocoa Glow bronzer is amazing. It adds a bit of contour, a bit of shine, and a serious glow. It lights up my whole face and makes it look like I’ve had some deserved time out in the sun!

Summer Blush (instead of Becca Cosmetics Champagne Collection Face Palette) – 100% Pure Lip & Cheek Tint in Peach Glow is awesome. I go into depth about the ease of use and great shade of the product here. I apply this on my morning commute and it always looks flawless. The combination of pink and peach flatters almost all skin tones, and it has good lasting power.

Highlighter (instead of Becca Cosmetics Champagne Collection Face Palette) – Tata Harper Very Illuminating Highlighter is gorgeous. It’s a cream highlighter that accentuates the cheekbones and other high points of the face without looking too harsh or glitzy. I highly recommend it!

Bright Lip (instead of the Lancome Juicy Shaker) – I love the Aromi Beauty Matte Liquid Lipsticks. They’ve got a huge range of colors, and I review the bright colours here.

Smudge-Proof Liner (instead of Mac Cosmetics Fluidline) – Jane Iredale Jelly Jar in black is creamy to apply and it lasts all day. I’ve had problems with natural gel liners  drying out in the past, but this one stays fresh. I love that it doesn’t budge and keeps a sharp line from morning to night.

Eye Brightener – Any product to make me look more awake is a winner in my book. The Honest Beauty Eye Liner in Eye Opener is a nude-toned liner that I add to my inner corners and lower waterline to fabricate a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed look. It isn’t as harsh as a white liner and has an awesome effect.

Any other summer staples I missed?
