It’s fall, even the weather in Nashville has acknowledged it. That means fall makeup. Yay! One of my favourite times of year full of dark, bold lips. It’s no secret that I when it comes to lips, I love Ilia Beauty lipsticks. So, I wanted to focus on one of the brand’s perfect shades for fall: the lipstick in Ink Pot.

I’ve talked about the texture and performance of Ilia Lipsticks A LOT, so be sure to check out past posts for more info. In general they are dry in texture, and I like to combine them with lip balm as a base to keep my lips better hydrated. They’re pretty matte, and the wear-time isn’t super long. They smell a bit like vanilla, but it isn’t overpowering.

The colour of Ink Pot looks pretty dark in the tube — the picture below is the most true to life. But, it isn’t as vampy once applied. It’s a deep plummy purple that won’t make you look dead or goth. It strikes the perfect chord between not being too light or too dark.

Purple is a great shade to brighten up the complexion, and it really accentuates my green eyes. I think this lipstick could benefit from being paired with a lip liner to enhance its definition, but it isn’t a requirement. It’s easy to build up the opacity of Ink Pot from a light wash of colour to a bold makeup statement. I also think it pairs well with a lot of different makeup looks. It can complement a dark, smoky eye or a daytime look. I think you could pull off this shade at the office if you limited its intensity to a lighter wash of colour. It will make your look pop! I’m wearing it with minimal makeup below on my Instagram.
